A group discussion about child protection issues conducted by UNICEF Childprotection team in Vajavilan east
The group discussion conducted on 28th November, 2017 in the community center. Mr.Ramiz (Child protection manager UNICEF) , Mr.Suthan (Child protection officer UNICEF, Kilinochi), SOND staff, Garama servaka officer, development officer, WRDS and, RDS members, preschool teacher and the people have been participated.
They mainly worried about dropout and irregular schooling. They inform that most of the people are labor workers generation by generation and wanted to educate their children.
GS informed that there are around 70-90 women headed families out of 546 families living in the area and most of them are poor. There are lot of labor workers and they leave their children at home alone and going to their work. UNICEF is planning to support a care center to children through the Divisional secretariat. The team have visited that place also. One preschool is also there. They met those children and talked to the preschool teacher regarding their food habit, what they teach them, their needs, preschool staring and closing time, and if the parents did not come to pick the child what they will do ? ect.
